Pohl, Frederik, and Jack Williamson. The Reefs of Space (1963), and Starchild (1965). In The Starchild Trilogy. Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1977. New York: Pocket, 1977.

The third novel of the trilogy, Rogue Star (1969), is not immediately relevant. The first two novels feature a world run by "the Machine," an underground computer that administers "The Plan of Man" and ruthlessly suppresses all "unplanned" activity. See also for explosive collars on "Risks" (potential subversives): a motif picked up in such films as DEADLOCK, VIRTUAL COMBAT, CAPTIVE STATE, SWORDFISH, INSURGENT.
