"Recombinant cinema," where the main clichés are from heist and prison films, esp. THE DEFIANT ONES (1958). In DEADLOCK the shackles are near-future, high-tech collars that explode if the prisoners are separated by more than 100 yards (cf. the collars in F. Pohl and J. Williamson's Reefs of Space [1963] and Starchild [1965]—listed under Fiction).
