The Max Headroom Show. Cinemax, syndicated from British TV. US Premiere, 1986. Created by Rocky Morton and Abbabel Jankel, for Peter Wagg. Matt Frewer, actor providing human portion of Max Headroom.

Introduced in an initial episode titled "20 Minutes into the Future," presenting the fully human TV reporter Edison Carter crashing "through a gate labeled 'Max. Headroom: 2.3 m[eters].' The evil network's house genius — a … teen hacker—then turns what's left of the hapless reporter into a 'computer-generated geek' . . . . And thus is born The Ultimate Talk-Show Host" (Cathleen McGuigan with Donna Foote, Newsweek 13 Jan. 1986: 59). See in this Category, Max Headroom (US television). For Max as a program in a computer, cf. and contrast TRON (1982); for more human folk inside computers, see under Fiction J. T. Sladek's The Müller-Fokker Effect and the works crosslisted there.
