Esp. relevant here are Robert Wilson's The Spaceman, which includes a mannequin spaceman hovering over a desert landscape and "creates a strange, bell-jar type of dreamworld that is . . . disconcerting" (14), and Tony Oussler's L7-L5, which uses technology to convey shattering futility.
