Clarke, Arthur C. The Lion of Comarre & Against the Fall of Night. New York: Harcourt, 1968.

Two stories. Lion of Comarre is a hackwork variation on the land of the lotus-eaters, significant here for the dream land's being replaced by a dream city, "a vast honey-comb of chambers" run by machines. Against the Fall of Night is the precursor of City and the Stars, q.v.. In his "Preface" to City and the Stars, ACC says that AFN was written between 1937 and 1946; it appeared in Startling Stories in 1948. TLC first appeared in Thrilling World Stories, in 1949.
