Techno-Warrior Police Image. From Balko, Radley. Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America's Police Forces. 2013. New York: Public Affairs, 2014.

Commenting on observation by Peter Kraska, U of Eastern Kentucky criminologist on police participants in a SWAT-team training session wearing Oakley wraparound sunglasses and sporting military-style haircuts of the post-World War I, short-hair variety: "The Oakleys and crew cuts were part of a muscle-bound, mechanistic look popular with younger police officers. The look was usually accessorized with sensory-enhancement gear like night-vision goggles to achieve what Kraska calls a 'techno-warrior' image. He notes that one purveyor of SWAT gear and clothing calls its line 'Cyborg 21st'" (ch. 7, p. 213).
