Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley. John Altschuler, Mike Judge, Dave Krinsky, creators. HBO TV series. USA: 3 Arts Entertainment, Altschuler Krinsky Works, Judgemental Films Inc. (prod.) / Home Box Office (main dist.). See IMDb for details on production[1] and link to episode guide.[2]
"Mundane" comedy centered on Pied Piper, a Silicon Valley start-up, significant here for a gag in at least Season 1 of very-near-future technology failing or quietly running amok. Season 1, episode 5, "Signaling Risk" (4 May 2014), we see the successive failure of tele-links involving a hologram, a somewhat-advanced form of Skype, and a cell phone.[3] Season 1, episode 6, "Third Party Insourcing" (11 May 2014), has a self-driving car trap Jared[4] and put him into a container on a container ship heading to a human-made private "island" at the International Date Line — and arriving at what looks like a drilling platform and may be a drilling platform ("full of robot-forklifts," episode 7).[5]
