Laumer, Keith. "Placement Test." Amazing July 1964. Coll. Nine by Laumer. Rpt. The Best from Amazing. Joseph Ross, ed. Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1967. New York: Belmont, 1969.

The placement test places people in their jobs, in a system that is "all completely cybernetically controlled" (Nine by Laumer 104). The story shows a man beating the system, and getting co-opted by it. Cf. K. Vonnegut's Player Piano and R. S. Wilson's "For a While There, Herbert Marcuse, I Thought You Were Maybe Right About Alienation and Eros". (RDE, 07/05/01)
