LEVIATHAN. George P. Cosmatos, dir. USA/Italy: MGM, 1989.

Even closer to ALIEN than DEEPSTAR SIX (q.v., this Category), but more interesting for motif of containment: the diving suits are similar to the fighting suits in R. A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers (cited under Fiction). The title refers not only to the name of a sunken Russian ship but also to the underwater habitat as a mechanical and electronic monster. (Caution: Arguably more sexist and less reliable on decompression than DEEPSTAR SIX.) Rev. briefly in Cinefantastique 19.5 (July 1989): 55; see in this Category, THE ABYSS.
