G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA. Stephen Sommers, dir. Stuart Beattie, David Elliot, Paul Lovett, script; Michael B. Gordon, Beattie, Sommers, story. Based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe characters. USA: "A Paramount release presented with Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro, of a Di Bonaventura Pictures production," 2009 [1]. Distributed mostly by Paramount; see IMDb for complexities.[2]

From Richard Kuipers in the Variety review cited: "As helmed by Stephen Sommers […], the pic expectedly packs some eye-popping sights and a nifty collection of gadgets and gizmos. Best of the bunch is the Stan Winston Studio-created 'accelerator suit,' allowing the G.I. Joe squad to sprint around Paris at 40 miles per hour and destroy half the city while attempting to save it from [… the arms-dealer villain's] attack." For the fighting suits, cf. and contrast R. A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers and J. Haldeman's The Forever War novels (Clockworks, under Fiction) and the works cross-listed there.
