Futurama: "Law and Oracle"
"Law and Oracle." Futurama, Season 6, episode 16. Initially on Comedy Central, 22 July 2011. Re-run, including on Comedy Central, at least through 2018. Josh Weinstein, script. Stephan Sandoval, director.[1][2] Running number 104 in the Futurama series.[3]
In addition to the TV show Law and Order and the POLICE ACADEMY series, the episode alludes in the script and visually to TRON (1982), AVATAR, and, most relevantly here, MINORITY REPORT.
Working with the New New York Police Department, Fry is promoted to the Future Crimes Division, where he meets Pickles, an Oracle, in function like those in MINORITY REPORT, in form a cyborg who is mostly a humanoid robot but with organic human brain cells. The plot involves Pickles's trying to destroy the human brain cells so he will no longer have precognition. The image of human brain cells — and what looks like a necessarily organic brain — in the head of a robot makes for a very intimate human/machine interface.
The episode also involves Roberto, a knife-wielding, criminally insane humanoid robot, a recurring character.
