Pierce, Foundations of Science Fiction[2] in ms. revision 2020, "Far Rainbow" features research into "Zero-Transport (matter transmission)"; "the Devil’s Dozen: scientists with grafted computer implants that render them totally rational – and totally inhuman"; and "the Massachusetts Machine, an artificial intelligence that had once almost taken over the world" (ms. p. 25).
