Classified by IMDb as "Animation | Action | Adventure" — a superhero movie using the major DC Comics characters in almost-cameo appearances, while featuring non-human Terran animals that gain super powers. But with Superman as co-star.

Significant here for SF opening — revisionist retelling of the the Superman origin story of the rocketing off from a dying Krypton not only of Kai-El, the future Superman,[4] but his puppy pet — and this film's occasional dips into SF, as is traditional with superhero narratives from Superman's origins on. Note often comic use of high technology, plus glances at cyborgs, cybernetic fighting suits,[5] and floating robots suggestive of the threatening variety in THE BACK HOLE (film).
