Foster, Alan Dean. Codgerspace. New York: Ace, 1992.
Demonstrates that as of the summer of 1992, the following themes were sufficiently alive and well to be mocked by a sophisticated author: rebellious AI-directed machines looking for godlike aliens, a huge spacecraft like unto A. C. Clarke's Rama, an alien machine civilization, human and machine programming. Caution: In Codgerspace ADF attempts ethnic humor; he's not very good at it.
