CLOCK CLEANERS. Ben Sharpsteen, dir. USA: Walt Disney Productions, 1937. Available on Cartoon Classics vol. 10, Mickey's Crazy Career..

Cartoon. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy (and a stubborn stork) superimpose the organic upon the mechanism of a large tower clock and—except for the stork—get the mechanical imposed upon them, in terms of both brief entrapment and metaphoric take-over. Listen for an early mechanical voice as Donald argues with his echo from a piece of mainspring. For very different cartoons, see in this section AKIRA and WIZARDS, and the animated sections of PINK FLOYD—THE WALL. See under Background, H. Bergson's essay "Laughter."
